Wall of \u00c1vila. It is a Romanesque military enclosure that surrounds the ancient core of the city of \u00c1vila. At present, the old city, the wall and the extramural churches are classified in the patrimony of the Humanity. Its construction began in the late eleventh century on the instruction of King Alfonso VI of Castile. The wall today has 2,516 m perimeter, 2,500 battlements, 88 large towers and 9 gates. The average height of the walls is 12 meters and their average thickness is 3 meters.<\/p>\n<\/div>
