African forest elephant. Smaller than the African savannah elephant and typically native from rain forests, this species has already disappeared from at least 75% of its natural range. It is generally found in the dense forests of Central Africa and West Africa. Its populations are fragmented and fell by 62% from 2002 to 2011. Males are up to 7.5 m long, 2.5 to 3.5 m at the withers and a weight of 4 to 6 tonnes.
