Big green sea turtle. They are the larger of the two sea turtle species that emerge to nest onto Cousine Island’s beach in the Seychelles (average weight: 110 – 190 kg, length: 1.5 m). The common name is derived from the green colour of their cartilage and fat found beneath their carapace, and not from the shell, a common misconception, which is olive to black in colour. It is the largest shelled sea turtle in the world.
