Basketball court. This sport was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, a Canadian-American professor of physical education at Springfield College, in the State of Massachusetts in the USA. It takes up the idea of an ancient Mayan ball game (Pok-ta-pok). Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world today, with more than 450 million players. In 2022 the Lithuanian Basketball Federation celebrated its 100th anniversary.
