Mopane worm on mopane tree leaves. It’s a species of emperor moth which is native to the warmer parts of southern Africa. This caterpillar is widespread and very common in semi-desert, bush and grassland. It feeds primarily but not exclusively on mopane tree leaves which has been at the origin of its common name.
