Winged griffin. Coat of arms of the city of Aktobe Aktyubinsk, it symbolizes power, bravery, and the city’s historical, archaeological, and warrior heritage.In 1992 a griffin statue which comes from the 10th century BC was found near the city. The griffin used to be on shields, flags and emblems of local “batyrs” (at the origin a term for “hero” or “warrior” in Kazakhstan).
