Red deer. They reach a shoulder height of 104 to 122 cm and a weight of 160 to 240 kg. They live almost exclusively in dense forests, well below the tree line. Red deer were extinct in Switzerland by the mid-17th century. However, a small population survived in Liechtenstein and migrated to the canton of Graubünden at the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to ongoing protection, migration, and the absence of natural predators, red deer populations now exist throughout Switzerland.
