Judo (柔道, jūdō, lit. “way of flexibility”). Martial art, created in Japan in 1882 by Jigorō Kanō as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy. Compared to Kobudō, or “traditional martial way”, judo is what is called a shin budō, that is to say a “modern martial way”, a branch of which evolved into a combat sport and then into a sport.
