Blue Alpine Gentian. A typical symbol of the Alpine region, it is, along with the Edelweiss, one of the best-known flowers of the Alps. Avoiding calcareous soils, it grows at altitudes of 2000 to 2600 meters in the western and central Alps, Pyrenees, and Sierra Nevada. It reaches a height of approximately 8 cm. The pure blue flower is also considered a symbol of fidelity.
