Red fox. The only native fox species in Switzerland, it is also one of the country’s most widespread animals. It can be found almost everywhere: in dense forests, agricultural areas, quiet residential areas, and urban areas. An omnivore, the fox feeds on a variety of food sources. Mice and birds are at the top of its menu, along with chickens, rabbits, earthworms, and insects. It also consumes plant matter: blueberries, cherries, and fallen fruit.
