African oil palm or Guinean Eléis. This tree is widely cultivated for its oil-rich fruits and seeds for food and industrial use. In the wild, it measures 20 to 25 meters. The first oil palm plantations on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia date back to the very beginning of the 20th century. Originally from West Africa, it has adapted very well to the Indonesian climate where the varieties obtained by selection have colonized the land on an industrial scale.
