This large bird of the Gallinaceus lives in coniferous forests. The males measure up to 90 cm in length with a wingspan of 125 cm. The capercaillie is found throughout Europe, especially in Scandinavia. It is sensitive to changes in its habitat. An estimated 75% of the population has disappeared since 1960.
