Citadel of Aleppo. This medieval palace was erected on a rocky promontory and today dominates the center of the city. The first citadel was built during the Hellenistic period under Alexander the Great. Several times conquered and partially destroyed over the centuries, it is rebuilt and fortified in 1292. Its present appearance dates from this time.
