Lion of Abyssinia. It is an endemic and emblematic species of Ethiopia. This lion is smaller than its East African cousin and the males have a black mane, which explains why it is sometimes called “the black lion”. In a few decades, these lions, of which there are only 1,000 left, have disappeared from a large part of the Ethiopian territory, driven by the destruction of their habitat due to demographic pressure.
