Watchtower of Fort San Felipe del Morro. This citadel, considered one of the most iconic built by the Spaniards in the Americas, was erected in the 16th century on a promontory located at the entrance to San Juan Bay in Puerto Rico. It was not until December 10, 1898 that the island of Puerto Rico was ceded to the USA by Spain. It is today an unincorporated organized territory of the USA.
